It is definitely formatted correctly, I think you're wrong. I believe you're confusing file system type and   partition map type? You probably have the correct file system (HFS+   journalled), but the wrong partition map type (should be Apple   partition map, you probably have Master Boot

FWIW, the exact same thing happened to me with a G3 iBook. Everything was right (formatting, the CDs), yet I couldn't install the software. I finally gave up, cloned my Pismo HDD to it using CCC (both the 10.4.11 and the 9.2.2 partitions), and it worked. I still don't know what happened... Felix
