suspect the latter.
Back up .config, make mrproper, restore .config, make menuconfig and
exit, choosing yes to save kernel config.
then make the kernel in the usual manner.

my post was to ensure you had a completely clean kernel tree. but
theres no reason why you cannot completely clean out your kernel
tree with make mrproper then run genkernel.

Perhaps Mark the best thing to do is park the drives on one system and
use the network to move your files. nfs and smb are obvious candidates.

What do you mean "what next". It tells you in two places "see dmesg"

omeone has broken into your system and screwed around with the
portage tree so that when you install sylpheed-claws it does something
nasty, running the digest command will allow that to happen.
If the digests are wrong find out what the problem is!

ee it is necessary when doing something in your overlay. It seems
most people who post to bugs.gentoo.org do not post a digest file.
Perhaps they should.

ow you do it
will probably depend which tool/library you are using to produce the
.pdf.
I am not sure if font embedding is possible in a .ps document.

g4u might also be useful for this.
