Can I assume that part of the xdsl install kit will be a sheet that lists the
various IP addys for the servers I will need to use?
Servers like POP, Mail, SMTP, Login(?), DNS, etc.
I'm checking through my old Verizon credentials to see what I have/rcvd.
If not, do I cause any trouble if I spend t
I have an older WD drive that has that whining sound and I absolutely agree
that it is noisy and irritating. I put that in an external case and only use
it for backups... but even the 10-15 minutes that it is usually on, it
grates at me. I have several of the newer 400GB and 500GB WD drives and

Thanks, Richard. That's exactly what I did for that home machine. Just going
to a slightly younger drive killed that high-pitched whine. I have a new CPU
cooller (Nexus) and new case fans to put in this weekend.
I made huge progress on my office PC. Took out the loud PS, replaced the CPU

If you use a gateway router you only need one address. Also, Network will be
semi secured :)
But if you decide to go the way your thinking, they give you a list of
addresses you can use. You can use those addresses anyway you like.

You should get either an email or a sheet with that info. Alternately,
they probably have a website with that information, or you could ask
someone on DSLReports.com.

Thanks Ben,
Spent time at the bellsouth.net site and got some of the info.
And some flakey news that I'll ask in a follow-on email.
Best,
Duncan

Thanks Tim,
Was hoping this was the case, but needed to ask the collective anyway.
73 faqs later I have some good and some notsogood info to ponder.
More q's to come... LOL!
Amazing how complex this stuff has gotten! Or, maybe it is just my AAADD
(age-affected-attention-deficit-disorder)!!
OK Tim,
Believe the router is a "gateway" router. Maybe not. How would I know?
From my LAN's perspective, I am treating it as my "gateway." All my
clients have
the router's IP addy as their "gateway" on the tcp/ip tab.
In any case, I now have the IP addys I think I need. Some make sense, some

Thanks Wayne,
Sorry, Router is D-Link DGL-4300 (per Hayes recc). But, I will go look inside
again tonight.
Good, about Eudora/Netscape!
OK, understand the "other peep's mail server." Hmm..This will not affect
List mail will it?
Yes, will look at Agent 4.xI don't do much "news" anyway.

Eudora should work with your provider, they just do not support it but settings
are settings in any email program AFAIK.
Or at least I can not imagine it not working. Using Eudora 7.1.0.9. My only
complaint is it is slow to load 1st thing in the morning for some reason. Rest
of the day OK

Well it is quite simple. After you select your DSL modem and Gate Router.
I myself use Linksys Cable Modem, Linksys 4 Port/Wireless-N Router and a 8
port 1GB Switch. The 1GB switch is for the high speed transferring and
streaming data off of itunes server.
Good luck in the setup,

Just like SD-RAM did after DDR become the norm, and FP/EDO when SD-RAM
became the norm...old mem tech gets priced up pretty fast. :)

It more than likely is a gateway router. Most are.

tnx FORC5. Just concerned the provider is braindead to

Sad, but very true. My last buy of some "old" EDO RAM was painful. But,
happy to even find it (probably pulls). No matter.
My last pending painful buy will be the registered-EDO-buffered-ECC ram for
my server. This will be fun and expensive! Only have to do it once though!
LOL!

All I know is when Steam bitched my X850XT's v7.6
driver was out of date I
loaded Catalyst v7.9 which screwed HL2 so bad it would
not run at all even
though other games worked (after reconfiguring them,
weird).
Put v7.6 back on, no problems and I'm there for a
while.
