I've got to learn to keep better notes. This worked once in my z/VM 5.4

Now I'm trying to do the same thing, z/VM 5.4 as guest in z/VM 5.2 in an

Thanks, Alan.
My notes said that I was able to do it. Obviously my notes are wrong. I
connected a real OSA triplet to the guest and it works fine.

Latest layer 2 / layer 3 vswitch question.
Within z/VM 5.4, can I have 1 layer 2 switch for my guests that support
only layer 2, and a layer 3 switch for linux and TCPIP? Both would be
connected to the same OSA (z9) via different triplet addresses.
Next thing I've got to figure out is how to
I just tried this. If you have an external switch connecting the two
VSWITCHes, then this seems to work fine. They¹re all one layer 2 collision
domain, and the external switch seems to glue everything together properly.
If you don¹t have an external switch and you have to use VM TCPIP or a Linux

I have Linux, z/OS and z/VSE. Hence the question about multiple vswitches.
Thanks, guys!

I've answered 1 question. I can not define a layer2 switch 2nd level and
attach it to a 1st level layer3.

Yes, you can have an OSA triplet attached to a z/VM tcpip in layer3 mode and
another triplet from the same OSA attached to a z/VM tcpip in layer2 mode.

Is layer 2 only available to z/VM TCPIP and linux? I'm getting errors on my
z/VSE guest and I don't even want to bother starting my z/OS 1.9 guest if
it's not going to work on the layer 2 vswitch. I'll just go ahead and
change the vswitch and TCPIP back to layer 3.

Thanks, Alan. Guess I'll be changing that z/VM back to a layer 3 vswitch.
Guess I'll get to try it when I get to my Linux only z/VM system.

Looking through the books, it would appear that the changes needed to go

Absolutely. I just wanted to make sure he knew that his Linux guests could use
a layer 2 VSWITCH, even though z/VM 5.3 TCP/IP cannot.
Mark
An idle question. Can VTAM connect to a level 2 vswitch?
