If you use Bering why not use pppd demand dialing? I use pppd for demand dialing. Have you looked at the Bering user guide? The serial modem chapter might help. "pon" may work just going from memory so may be wrong. Just in case you are wondering I have setup khaddley's version of Dachstein-1.02.
