I can't get my head around this Diouf situation. He's not training because of
the death of his old coach and the death of Nelson Mandela. What !!?? He wasn't
even related and whilst we all know that losing someone close is hard I don't
think anyone has had 6 months off work because of it.
Thanks for sharing the very sad news James. Padraig helped me on my first
(and still only!) ever trip to Elland Road over 10 years back with great
tips on where to go to make the most of the trip.
RIP Padraig.

Well it’s so much nicer going to see us play now the c**t Bates has gone. The
football isn’t necessarily always better, and to be honest the entertainment
value, if not sporting finesse, when we were in division three (League One) and
minus points was often higher, but at least when I go now I
Thanks James for sharing the news .
May he rest in peace.

Thanks for passing on the news. Padraig was active on so many
sporting fronts we have struggled to keep on top of everything. We

I remember meeting Padraig at nearly all home games in the late 90's early
2000's.
He flew over so often.
Always went to the Adelphi to meet up with the rest of the Usual Suspects and
then eventually to the Brittania.
He always loved a pint and enjoyed the banter.
He will sadly be missed.
Dear List
Andy's mail sums up only too well my feelings on the deaths of list
members. The deaths of John Sykes and Padraig and the subsequent
tributes and expressions of sympathy demonstrate the goodness of this list.
It makes me proud to be a member even though, now, lurker is more apt.

what you say is true, but all players are mercenary to some extent, but I
doubt if he'll earn as much in the UK as he does in France, but my main
concern is that he's only played occasionally since getting seriously
injured last year. Back on loan to see if he's any good anymore would be

If it is more than media speculation is it not just an agent trick for an
improved contract?
He is highly thought of at St Etienne who are French First Division and its

Difficult one for me this, Max, along with Beckford, is my favourite player
post first relegation, and IF he can play like he did it would be a real coup.
Having said that he did leave us (although it was to better himself and his
career, albeit the timing was awful) Add to that the fact that
You may be right about his agent being behind this Paul. Apparently his
contract with St Etienne expires in 2015 so the timing would fit with your
assessment. This time it feels to have more legs about it for me though.
As regards swapping French top tier with our 2nd tier I do not think
No from me.
Same feeling over bristol rovers. He nearly cost us dear.
Liked him but he left and that's that.
Young keen hungry players is what we need.
Same goes for any of the Norwich team. Gone, fondly remembered but that's it

Ligue Un isn't a rich league. PSG and Monaco have rich benefactors now and
marseilles are traditionally a top european club but most clubs get
championship or lower crowds and I guess championship and lower wages.
They also have the threat of a new 75% tax band coming in which will either see
Disagree entirely. He fucked off Bates and the selling club we were. He needs
to go where the money is for his family and I would much rather our 'stars' go

earned promotion with his performances and was entitled to

It's pretty fathomable if you look at the facts at the time.

OK, run through the alternatives to selling Smith to the only club that
tabled an offer that got him off the payroll and helped bail out the sinking

I just don't buy it - sorry but other teams were in for him. The ship was sunk

It's what happened at the time.
No other teams were in for him with £7m. No other teams were in for him
without expecting us to contribute to his wages. It was not his decision to
go. The club sold him. He was entitled to a loyalty bonus, which he waived.
Do you seriously expect

But there was no option for Smith to stay. ManU offered £7m for him. Under
what circumstances would the management of a failing business have refused
that?
What Smith said was irrelevant. He had no option to stay, even playing for
nothing.
I have a pretty good idea about the deal. What
No you don't have any idea about the deal - only what you have read publicised
