Thanks for that information Cathy but it still won't work because with Chinese names you use both the generation name and given name together. So for John his name is Chan Chung Sing - people talking to him would call him Chung Sing, although family members might use Sing as a diminutive, but only

Art, This is what the Residence Event is for. Whenever I find a new address for someone then I add a Residence event with at least the date and Location included. In the description I would add things like census, birth, son's birth etc (or leave blank) as appropriate. Ron Ferguson

Hi Jenny, I should have added - a right click in the same place takes you backwards through the list of siblings. Do you know you can click to the side of a spouse to cycle through their spouses? and to the side of parents to bring up another set of parents when there is more than one set?

I suspect every person has their own standard way of entering the data. I try to always transcribe the whole entry for the household into the source, unless it is a very large household or institution. Sometimes it can be useful in the future to be able to refer back to a lodger, boarder etc as
