Dear Arto,
I think Django converts to italian or french tab as well as Fronimo does.
So if you should have the file and at least the demo version of django it
should be easy to convert.
All the best

Play without nails, basically. A great proportion of 19c guitarists did, all

Dear lutenists,
yesterday I got my copy of the LSA Quarterly XXXIX, No. 4. It was a very
nice surprise: about 70 lute arrangemants of Christmas and winter
holiday pieces! It will be very useful!
Many thanks to LSA, Dick Hoban and all the other arrangers, many of whom
are also LuteList
It is so funny, but to me reading Luys Milan tabulature is nearly
impossible! When I see number tabulature, I can read it only in the
Italian way... ;-)
Dear Arto,
same with me. I'm always confused when some students come up
with guitar/folk/Valencian tablature. :-)

Additionally, it helps to keep the last finger joint flexible,
at least with low and normal tension strings. According to
Pujoll, who played without nails too, the index should stand
upright on the string. For comparison: Segovia's technique

Milan is also available in the Fronimo files, Jason Kortis did this
edition. This edition has all the fronimo features, where you can go under
options, general, and styles, and you can simply put it into any kind of
tab you desire.. French, Italian, Spanish, even German!

Dear David,
it all depends on the instrument you are playing. First of all playing
without nails requires strings of less tension - it's a matter of taste
which kind of string you want to use - nylgut or gut feels best imho.
If this doesn't lead to any success it's possible to file your

Just a quick note:
It should be rememmbered that Flamenco is the music of the Gypsy/Romani people
who emigrated from Northern India around the year 1000 AD and were first
documented in Spain in the 15th century.
There are some interesting parallels between Flamenco and Indian raga music:

If I remember correctly this method recommended no nails for the Guitar.

It may be question of personal way of feeling things, but in my case,

Dear Lute List -
I have located the Experimental Musical Instruments magazine article on

Importantly, the author states that plucked strings sound best when tuned to
50% - 70% of their breaking tension (not 80%, as I
I added a PDF version in Freedom Tablature also.
