forced him out of his bedroom into his living room.

Step One. Tell wife you will be using the dining room table for the next 7
months to display your new vintage computer system! "Isn't it amazing and

Kurt,
The system disk must be in the drive at the time when you reset the NEC.
Sequence is this:
1. Insert the system disk into the drive
2. Make sure the PC-8231A is connected to the SIO1 port (RJ-45 jack) on the
back of the NEC
3. Power on the PC-8231A
4. On the NEC, either Either powering off
Gary,
Does the NEC load software from the drive on reset, or does it need a system
disk? I'm curious as to how those additional basic features are loaded.

Even better news. I got the PC-8231A drive to format a new disk. Had to
buy a pack of 10 new DSDD floppies. So now this thing is fully functional

Thanks for the update!
If anyone can restore that drive it will be you!

The bad news: The NEC disk drive that shipped as part of this auction

Well, there are SPI BT/BLE modules so speed to the ModelT side shouldn't be too
bad, either using the bus or the parallel port...
Alternatively, there are modules like this

Is the NEC disk unit similar to the TPDD as far as command set goes? I guess
another way of asking that is whether or not TS-DOS will talk to it. I know the
NEC has a higher capacity per disk but I wasn't sure if there were more
differences.

Hi Chris, yes I remember when you did that! Yes I'll definitely let you
know if the drive works. I do also have another drive in my possession
which probably works, but I haven't turned it on in years. I got away from
using magnetic media for Model T's years ago personally...

Just to let you all know, I did win the auction. I do intend, however, to
try to resolve the issues with my other NEC CRT adapter if I can. If I can
do so, I certainly would like to make that one available to someone here.

Yes it's on eBay right now. The price is already quite high. Search for the NEC

The CRT unit is really the key item. Although the drive is intriguing to me. I
have been tempted to try and emulate it with mComm but I suspect there are two
things that I would run into.1) I sus
I used to have one of each when I had a PC-8201a. I never was able to get

The Disk drive is interesting. As I have read, the NEC units test to see if the
drive is attached on boot and if it is, they load the extended
