the fuel filters are new. Clean the tank strainer if you suspect it may
be clogged (like it runs poorly with less than ΒΌ tank in it).

market car. The US models all had turbos and the first W124 sold in
the US was 1987.
I would check with your insurance co to be sure you can obtain

Don't forget, gas has less energy per gallon than diesel and the IP meters
volume. This means that you run under much less power even though the gas
burns faster. You'd me more likely to get into trouble with a heavier fuel.

That's what I remembered. I believe that Mercedes intended for all of the

It's 2 belts, not for redundancy, but for the load. And both should be
replaced together. You were running on a prayer with only one belt. The
alternator is the tensioner on that engine. You will have to loosen the
bottom pivot bolt and the front, top clamp bold. Then you will be able to

Take a set of 3/8" drive metric sockets and some
smaller open ends and have at it. The tensioner is in
there somewhere. Start loosening things and don't take
no for an answer.

I think you might have been lucky - if the tranny didn't give you
trouble, the engine would have blown up. They tended to die if you
drove over 55. I guess they were ahead of their time?
