the light does not come on then your charging circiuit will never work
right. Some alternators will self start most of the time and I suspect that
the alternator you installed is one of these.

PB Blaster etc., a modicum of luck, and a clean and trouble-free
installation can be yours. I'd also use some anti-seize on the cleaned
