I have a 1980 300CD which initially had serious problems with excessive blow-by and associated oil consumption. The prescription: Diesel purge, regular Italian tune-ups and drive it like yer pants are on fire and yer ass is catchin'. The blow-by is quite likely due to rings which are crapped up
