I use M-1 ATF as PS fluid in everything from the 82-240D to the 94 S350. I do use the MB brand PS Fluid in the 99 E300, however. The fluid should be crystal clear (red tint of course). I might suggest that you suck out as much old stuff as you can (the $2 sucker works great on that) and refill with some new stuff (not the fancy stuff, just the cheap stuff) and do that again tomorrow and the next day after you have driven the car some. That'll get mostly clean fluid in there.
