Looking for sources of waste oil tells you a lot about the restaurants
in your area. When the waste oil is solid at room temperature, common
sense tells you to look elsewhere for fueling - and eating.
McDonald's loses on both counts.

I have read that using toothpaste (not the gel stuff but something with
some grit in it) to polish them up works about as well as anything, but

WVO contains several things that cause trouble as fuel:
Protein (clogs filters, carbonizes, and produces varnish in the IP)
Carbohydrates (clogs filters and carbonizes easily, abrasive)
Phosphates (abrasive soots, can produce hard precipitates in the fuel
system).

One more bit of info -- I recently changed the front pads on my '91
300D and bought replacement pads from Rusty - Jurid pads (call him to
discuss them) and they came with everything including a replacement bolt
which should always be replaced. I highly recommend them.

Tore into the SD this weekend to see what the problem was with the
passenger window. First took out the switches from the console (thanks
Wilton for the primer on how to do that, comes apart easily and
quickly), took them apart, and cleaned them. Still no go but the
switches work well now.

Race engine builders recommend that to free up sticky rings, use the
thinnest oil you can for as long as the engine will stand it (even if that
is 20 minutes).
