So far I have not had any rain except in the middle of the night
anyway, but I would expect it to go out if it was raining heavy
like TV sat does. Although I must say it has to be REALLY ready

The odometer is not working on my 83 300 SD, but the speedometer is. Took out
the instrument cluster and then remembered it is electronic and not mechanical.
I know how to fix the mechanical units that came in the 300D series but not
this one.

Got my answer from the W124 C&B manual.
Looks like headlights/fog/backup lights all light only when turned on (the
failure indicator, that is.)
Brake and turn signal lights will cause it to be on at all times until the lamp
is replaced.
He said he checked the turn signals, but I'll have to see
The lamp out indicator is only for exterior lights in this model, according to
the manual.

A couple years ago my phone would quit every time it rained, strangely my DSL
modem worked all the time.
Verizon scheduled a guy for the next day but I caught a lucky break and they
sent him out that same day.
He saw that the connector box at my house was very old and decided to run a new
wire.
It does have plastic gears (driven by stepper motor) and they get brittle
and break. There are several different tooth combinations so you need to

Yeah I looked into that, you need to count the number of teeth on the
gears in there, apparently they used different gearsets in different (or
maybe even the same) years. If I recall a gear set was like $70, some
guy decided to make them after having problems, so it is a fairly
limited market
Yeah, you need to take apart the odo gearbox, count the teeth, then
you can order a new set. Most joints want $70 for $2-3 worth of
gears. I managed to find someone on fleaby selling BMW gears for
$35. 2 of the 3 were right. the third gear was ok, so I just used
the old one.

The odometer part works just the same and is subject to the same
problems as on the mechanical setups. In other words you need to
get the correct gears and replace them which is done the same way
as with the mechanical ones. Did one on my daughter's 81 SD. Very
easy. Got the gears from a guy on
He's at work with the car right now, but I suspect this is the case. I saw him
drive up this afternoon (it's been raining like crazy here for the past three
days) and all of his exterior lights appeared to be working.

voltage or current detector -- it looked like a little torpedo about 6in
long, was yellow. It had no buttons or anything else so I was never
