Dieselvolk, Just got back on Saturday from a business trip to New England and back, drove my '87 wagon and put on about 1700 miles. It's now time for an oil change, but I cannot find Mobil 1 15W-40 or 0w-40 at the usual places. Where are folks getting their M1 these days? Also, during the homeb

Randy, I would be surprised if a bottom filter like that could coat the engine bay. Top side oil filter would have made a very obvious mess. Forgetting to put the oil cap on the valve cover really makes a huge mess of things and will cause long term oil seeping unless fully washed. Oil cooler

I expect you are right but he will have the oil filter up top. So, if the gasket was leaking the oil might leak out higher up than it would on my engine. However, having read some of the other posts, I am thinking that the cooler hoses are the likely culprit and waiting to hear if it is true.
