The 5 Long-tailed Ducks continue to linger on Bde Maka Ska (Lake Calhoun)
Hennepin Co. For the last 3 consecutive days I have enjoyed watching their
unique diving technique, and in flight. Today they were all together and
seen on several sections of the lake.

This morning I observed 6 WWSC on Bde Maka Ska (Lake Calhoun) in
Minneapolis, Hennepin Co. For 20 minutes I enjoyed watching them together
in close proximity. Their distinctive, white secondaries were conspicuous

Earlier today there was a Red-necked Grebe on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.
Although a large portion of the lake is frozen there is still plenty of
open water hosting a good variety of birds. It was nice to see a
first-cycle Glaucous flying around and standing on the ice.

floating fishing pier at close range.

This morning there were 2 Black Scoters on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.
They were close together and were seen at rest, diving, and flying. The
Long-tailed Duck was still present and the weather conditions were again
ideal to scope these birds out in the middle of the lake.

After singing its rolling syllable "chur-ree" 2 syllable note song moving
around on the ground , and along the woods inside edges it flew over into
the cemetery. It was an exciting 10 minutes!

Old Cedar Avenue trailhead is just north of the Old Cedar Avenue bridge. From
MN. hwy 77 (Cedar Ave), exit onto Old Shakopee Road. Drive west on Old
Shakopee Road and turn left at Old Cedar Avenue. The Trailhead is at the
bottom of the hill near the old bridge.

The adult White-faced Ibis is still at the Old Cedar Ave bridge in Bloomington,
Hennepin Co. It is day 4 that the bird has been seen out from the observation
platform along the Long Meadow Lake mud islands. It was tucked up taking a
snooze when I left around noon.

The adult Lesser Black-backed Gull came into Lake Harriet in Minneapolis,
Hennepin County this afternoon at 4:30pm. It arrived with a small group of a
couple hundred Gulls and parked it on an ice shelf 50 feet out from the east
shore beach and stayed put until dark.

Purgatory Creek Wetlands
The Purgatory Creek Wetlands is in Eden Prairie, Hennepin County. It is south
from MN State hwy 5 on Prairie Center Drive about .4 mile on the south side of

There were "2" Snowy Egrets present at the Purgatory Creek Wetlands in Eden
Prairie, Hennepin County from 1:40pm - 2:00pm while I was there. They were
foraging together around the perimeter of the bare mudflat amongst the many
Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons.

State Hwy 65 and we started to hear them
vocalize approximately 1 mile south of State Hwy 210 on State Highway 65. They
were spread out between there and the Soo Line Trail.

This afternoon while walking at the Bass Ponds in Bloomington, Hennepin County
a vocalizing Killdeer flew into the Hog Back Ridge Ponds rocky shoreline. This
was a welcome spring time sight on such a warm, balmy afternoon here in the
Metro!

aerial
maneuvers to turn on a dime and return to another exposed perch. It was fun to
watch and after a few passes it contined around the lake.

Today around noon on the south beach of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis, Hennepin
County I enjoyed a single American White Pelican wading on the beach. While
watching it 4 Snow Buntings flew in to the beach between us, certainly an
unlikely combination I wasn't expecting to see today!
