Hi Nina,
Sandhill Cranes are ground nesters and will fake an injury to lure you away
from their nest or young.
If you go back out there to assist this bird, be very careful. They go for
the eyes with that dagger-like bill. People have been several injured

Hello Tom, and all others,
The New Germany wetlands are quite wide. I don't think binoculars would be
of much value.
That said, I was there on Sunday and the water was very high. Birds that
forage in mud were elsewhere, also the egrets and herons were scarce.
I noticed Purgatory Creek in Eden
n is where the Little Blue Heron was seen earlier in the month.

The wood stork is in the treeline of the farm, as had been reported by
others.
Steve Roman, who has seen these birds in Florida, says it looks healthy.
We saw it preening and resting in the shade. Another birder said it had

After seeing the stork from a different angle, the bill does look like it
has a crack running from side to side, just under the nostrils.
Please, try to carpool when coming. The crew running this farm are growing

People, there is a new batch of spam going around. Never open a link in a post
when the subject line is blank.
It usually is spam or a virus waiting to infect your computer.

Two Cattle Egrets were at the farm this rainy afternoon, though the cattle
were not to be found.
Thanks for the post, it was a treat to see these birds. They were lifers for
me!

Thursday's chance of rain is at 90%; so if it is rainy look to Monday the
23rd.
The original letter had the wrong rain date.

The back yard has been much quieter without the Dark-eyed Juncos, since they
left 3 days ago. This year I added millet and milo to the seed mix so I had a
lot of ground feeders.

I think I had a female White-throated Sparrow in my yard in Plymouth yesterday.
Sparrows are not my strong suit, but the photo looks like it.

I drove by the Great Blue Heron rookery on the Mississippi river by Marshall
Terrace and counted 19 birds on about 30 nests. I was on the West side of the
river and did not use a scope, so I might have missed one or two.

, if you driving to see a bird that has been visiting a feeder, bring along
some seed. You might need it.

This afternoon, I birded around the county.
I did not find the Western Tanager. It was around 2:15pm and I was there for
about 25 minutes. There was fresh snow and the only footprints in the yard
were mine.

There have been several notices about sightings lacking county ID. Please, put
the county in the subject line.
Thank you.
