For the modem-Might be a winmodem, but I dont know any winmodems that fail

considering switching to a Mac and they almost always give you a static
IP. They won't help you with Linux but they won't yell either and their
info sheet provides everything ya need.

OK, the best, most reliable way to low-level format your hard drive is to go
to the manufacturer's website, follow the support links or download links to
their utilities pages, and download the utility they make especially for the
drive you have.
It will probably be a windows installation
You have to boot into the bios and look for an option to format the drive.
It will rewrite the low level drive stuff but will not write any partitions.
Every byte will be errased. I have only found one bios that does it and it
was in a 386. There isn't much need for it now, because drives all

this refers to what i think it does you might try leaving this out, i
think it refers to some sort of hard drive optimisation and although it
may only affect the booting of linux and have nothing to do with windows

'expert' that the 'lba32' line in lilo.conf allows lilo to boot from

Try my method. If it still plays up at 94% you may have a media problem. But
with a new master boot record it should go OK.

"statically linked" Opera version for Linux from their website. It
installed without a wimper in Mandrake.
BTW, the errors I got were apparently because I was not online when I first
started it up and it was trying to get on
