: [newbie] how to install windows and still have lilo?
The only
thing that I have yet to change is the timing in lilo upon boot-up. I want
lilo to sit there and wait for me to select the O/S I want, not pick one
after so many seconds.
[Kesav] Hi for this I think GRUB is better compared to LILO.
Rgds
and useful as i did.

That may be, Kesav! I am not as familiar with Grub, so I stick
with what
little I know of LILO. After some research, I deduced

i've used both lilo and grub; grub has many advantages, though an
intuitive understaqnding of their syntax is not necessarily one
of them *g*. one

An easier way is to just make a boot disk (you can use the dd command or the
Mandrake Control Center). After installing Windows, boot into GNU/Linux
using your boot disk. After you log in, become root and type:
/sbin/lilo -v
That will reinstall lilo.

I wanted to thank everyone for their helpful suggestions and pose some
related questions: I tried to install XP in my fat32 partition, but it
refused to install there. Does XP want to be the first partition on a
disk (starting from cylinder 0)? Will I have to delete my / partition
and re-install

I have removed the drive on which XP and my boot loader was installed
(hda)and want to re-install it in a partition on my other drive (was
hdb). I know XP is going to take over, how can I get a boot loader back
without installing mandrake again? Can I just use the update option on
the cd and not

No need to go that far - just boot from a floppy (or you can use
rescue mode, I think) and type lilo.
Since he is removing an hd his partition assigns will change and
therefore his current bootdisk will no longer work.
