The bits inside the petcock can dry out and leak too, or the mating surfaces
can give up. Sometimes just tightening it down a touch or sliding it back
and forth between On and Off to find the one position where it doesn't leak

Is that "peacock," as in purty colored bird, or "petcock," as in

Sorry. I'm a congenital smartass, so I couldn't let that one lie.
As for the leak, try removing the petcock and inspecting the pencil-

Trust me, it will happen. I've ridden there extensively.
Geographically, the variety of rides is astounding -- the mountains,
the desert, the coast -- all easily reachable within day trip
distance. And the scenery i
A GS500E would also be another good small bike. They were made from

Jules,
You can always try looking at one of the 750's on craigslist. For two
reason - one is to see if you fit and also to compare to what you are
buying. Not knowing where you live there are 4 listed in the bay area
craigslist right now;
What I just looked up.

I've ridden both and the 250 feels about the same height but a heck of
a lot less stable to me than the 750. Having lived in the Bay Area I
give you credit for planning on commuting there - just depends on the
commute.

I transitioned from a Honda CM450A to the NH750. At first, the bike
felt large and heavy but you get used to it quickly. I'm short, about

I recently upgraded from a 450 to a 750, and although you notice the
difference in weight, I found it surprisingly easy to handle, also at
low speeds in tight corners. The biggest difference I noticed is the
increase in power, and the different reaction you get from four
cylinders rather than two.
my ex could almost flatfoot my 99 NH250... And she was 5 foot even with short

And i agree that the with of the seat (and the rest of the bike) makes a huge
diffrence too. The 250 was sinny compaired to the GL1200 (talk about a jump in
power) and i believe the seat on the GL is the same

Hi Dan,
have you checked on ebay? I got mine there. I can't remember exactly, but I
am pretty sure I got the 412 for about $280, but they were not HD. There is
an old thread about that from last summer when I did the change.

Graham,
Not to suggest a course of action or anything, but we
have relatively cheap land up here - I can buy some, put up a barn,
and you can send your duplicates up here. I'll ride them - heck - you
can come up and I'll take you to the barn and you can ride them too!
I know ... I was just saying ... two of each? I have two of each -
Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas, Hondas (again), etc.

Speaking from the 30 Inch Inseam crowd (I'm also 5'6") I can attest it
isn't just the seat height - its the angle that your legs kick out
from the seat to the ground that determines the ability to flat foot.
