I'll second some of the sentiments regarding background of the folks you expect
to be operating the system. I'll also add the value of the data and how
stringent your requirements are as factors.
We migrated to CommVault from NetBackup. The policy based backup was something
not completely
OK we are looking at Commvault, it is recommended by our storage vendor. We
have outgrown the capabilities of our current backup software and need
something new. In our quote for Commvault the vendor quotes and STRONGLY
encourages us to purchase 3 full days of training. Does anyone have
very good software, but lots and lots of options.
I take it you've been looking at some of the documntation in Books Online?

Drill down into client computers. It will tell you what agents are
installed and then when you check the backup set it will tell you what is
being backed up...

One of the real beauties of DPM, end users can do their own restores,
and if you have used VSS in the past there is no change for your users.

the initial stages

negative feeling about their app. I would like to see hard data on my
environment, though.
At the time we were looking for something that could do transactional
log-based backups for Lotus Notes. It was either CommVault or IBM Tivoli
with Commvault or Veritas btd.
Yup, it just works. I used to do incrementals to disk, then use the
synthetic full feature to make full backups to tape. Worked like a champ.
