Just an update on snow conditions - it is thigh deep for me when I venture
into it! So bushwhacking without snowshoes or skis

leave for Canada Jays after I drive away) and I observed mate-feeding on
1/24/22 (with the Canada Jay food!). I've been regularly seeing 10 Canada

A White-winged Crossbill was calling as it flew around Sabattis Bog. I
found 2 male White-winged Crossbills gritting in Sabattis Circle Road near a
marsh area, and then one flew up to the top of a spruce and began to sing.

I received a call from Mike Chamberlain of Traverse City, Michigan - he and
his wife have been viewing the Ross's Gull since 7:20 a.m. (2/1/17) - it is
just to the north of the Tupper Lake boat launch! As of a few minutes ago,
they were still observing it.

four times today, 11am for about twenty minutes, three times since 2:45 in
half-hour cycles. I put out some baby clams. It's loving them.

from the Red Squirrels that venture to the food. The chickadees are
extremely observant and let out alarm calls - when the Red Squirrels first
come in and anytime they are within striking distance.

bigger in size than a house cat! On 3 occasions, an Eastern Coyote showed
up with 2 Raccoons and they ate the corn side by side! And a beautiful Gray

pools on my hike out of Massawepie! I found Moose tracks in two locations
during the hike. I've found Palm Warblers as early at 4/12, so I was
surprised that I didn't hear any yesterday.

In Warrensburg, I observed 5 Cedar Waxwings eating crab apples along Route 9
in town.

I thought this story about a late February rescue of Common Loons trapped on
Lake Champlain might be of interest. (Tom Whitney lives in VT and spends
summers at his camp on Long Lake, where he also participates in the Loon
Census each year.)

a Northern Shrike perched on top of a
bird feeder! I took a couple photos of the shrike as it perched in a tree
along our lawn, but it flew off after a feeder bird - a relentless pursuit
and they disappeared behind a huge White Pine so I didn't see the outcome.
