There are a lot of factors that have changed since the fifties. Film and paper of course as you have mentioned. Optics, lenses are very much crisper now. Lighting, in the fifties it was mostly hot lights and flash bulbs though a few were using big strobes which even so give a far different look

Fred, that whirring feeling should bother you. It's the feeling of the focussing motor being forced! When you want to focus manually with an AF body, you should always select MF on the body. The only exception is with lenses with linear focussing motors built in, as in certain C***n and N***n

It's not a stupid idea. I think it's cool that you found a lens that you like so much that you're willing to go through some machinations to keep it. And who cares if it matches your camera - that it matches your preferences for optical performance, or physical qualities, is all that matters.

Unless there is a switch or something else of which I am not aware, the battery in my recently purchased 6x7 is dead. (I can't imagine you have to have film in the camera or a lens mounted to make the shutter work??) In any case, the battery check button does nothing and the shutter doesn't

My $200 6x7 arrived in the mail today. It's not really the beater that I thought it was. It looks much better than the pictures. I'd call it a good user, perhaps an 8. It's main visible flaws are a bit of edge brassing and some paint loss on the rear door trim and the viewfinder lettering. Good

Epson Fine Art Paper and Epson Gallerie both come with printer recommendations. For Epson Fine Art on the Epson 1200 they recommend the Photo Quality Ink Jet settingr. For Gallerie, Photo Quality Glossy Film gets the nod. I have found that both are right on without any further adjustment of

I've printed on Epson Glossy Film, which is somewhat subtle compared to papers, but very attractive in its own way. However, it's quite opaque and won't project. But I think there are some transparency stocks as well. I have never tried printing on them, but I believe they're intended for use
