consider that will be a big advance over your zooms. 43 vs 50mm or 77 vs

There are a lot of factors that have changed since the fifties. Film and
paper of course as you have mentioned. Optics, lenses are very much crisper
now. Lighting, in the fifties it was mostly hot lights and flash bulbs
though a few were using big strobes which even so give a far different look

Well, I don't have a 77mm, but I do have the 43mm, and I do have four or
five 85mm lenses, as well as several 35mm lenses, numerous 50mm lenses,
several 28mm lenses,
etc. IOW, not only do I have lenses close to the same focal lengths,
but I also have several lenses of the same focal
I've been through the matted photos in a box scenario. The problems
are that they are not the easiest thing to view and hold, and they wear
and the mattes get dirty with bent corners.
So I finally decided on a leather zip-up case from Light
Impressions. I was worried about the acetate
Fred, that whirring feeling should bother you. It's the feeling of the
focussing motor being forced! When you want to focus manually with an AF
body, you should always select MF on the body. The only exception is with
lenses with linear focussing motors built in, as in certain C***n and N***n
Fred, perhaps I was off-base and you just have very sensitive fingers that can
feel the whirring of the little gears in the AF lenses, even with the motor
disengaged. I've never noticed it myself.

thought it was. It looks much better than the pictures. I'd call it a
good user, perhaps an 8. It's main visible flaws are a bit of edge
brassing and some paint loss on the rear door trim and the viewfinder

It works. I had a roll of outdated tungsten film in the fridge, so I
loaded that in. Everything works fine. Shutter sounds good. MLU works.
I'm pleased. Now if someone would just enable a lens :-).
Seriously, there was a 90/2.8 is it? last night, and I bid $250
before bed, but
I've printed on Epson Glossy Film, which is somewhat subtle compared to
papers, but very attractive in its own way. However, it's quite opaque
and won't project. But I think there are some transparency stocks as
well. I have never tried printing on them, but I believe they're
intended for use
