Trying booting with extensions off as Dan in AZ suggests is a good idea.
Otherwise, try booting from something external,
A CD or PCMCIA drive.
I revived a Wallstreet with a HD so clogged up
and fragmented that it couldn't get very far into a boot.
Finally, managed to erase and reformat, then

all this time while having an internal ethernet system.

QB vs. 5.0 says 9.2.2 required but designed specifically for OSX.
I haven't had too good success with OSX compatible software.
QB vx. 4.0 seems to predate 9.1

In the end I gave up. I never could find any encryption toggle
and no software upgrades helped, nor did eliminating competitive

I decided to clean up the 5300 and reinstall 8.6
Re-followed Asante's caveats and recommendations
regarding the very problem Clark mentioned. They list
several extensions that are incompatible.
Voila. Everything works good now.
Now, I'm off to my 3400 to work

I'm using an Asante Ethernet PC card on a 5300 running 8.6.
Once a few issues worked out it ran fine . . . until I tried
installing a Farallon WiFi PC card (which didn't work)
Now, the 5300 tells me that I do not have Open Tpt Internet Lib
installed, which of course is clearly there.
I just told mine to save password. Yes, it did do it on the main
account but it saved them *all*, not just the main one.

have a == option in my Symbol Menu. If I type the find symbol into
the field directly either in quotes or out of quotes ==c* I get no
finds.

I'm using one on my PB3400. Works fine. I inquired of the list as well
before buying on e-bay and got affirmatives.
I do have some extension incompatibility with (I think) ValueFax if I
try to save from the PB3400 HD to the IBM TS, especially large files.
Extensions off and No problem.

Apparently Asente made the modems for the 3400 but they referred me to
Apple for ID of the modem's Class and reset string. Apple drew a blank
too, at least on the first probe.
Anyone know the Class and reset string for this modem?
