I have a few RH7 boxes setup now and I'm noticing the same exact
problem across all of them. I made sure I had all the updates and
patches in place, including this particular program (sysstat). Whenever
I do a 'ps' command (be it 'aux', or anything else), I see the
following:

Well, I can give troubleshooting hints.
I checked the /etc/services file of a couple of my RH 6.2 boxes and
didnt find anything, but you may want to check yours. The next thing
I would try is to connect to the port with,

Yes, /dev/sda1 is my primary drive, and /dev/sda2 is the secondary drive in the
ex-RAID. It is where the data I was wanting to get from the backup is.
You are right in the fact that this is an extended partition. There should be two
partitions on it: 1) the mirror of "/" 2) the mirror of "swa

LOL. For kind of opportunity I'm going to have to dig out an old hard

Quite frankly I would try this with BEOS or something with a smaller kernel.
I know there is a Linux that has been made for Palm's, etc. This should be
small enough, but I have no idea where to get it.

Okay, I understand.
Two parts: why partition a disk? and, how to manage a RAID filesystem
as it grows.
There are lots of reasons to segment your filesystem, but how should
depend on the uses you expect for the machine. For a single-user box,
you might be able to get away with just / and swap i

I mean besides the Linux native and swap partition for what reason should I
make partitions for /boot /home /usr /var etc.
Once you setup the filesystem with all those partions what happens with the
size of the filesystems when I add a new disk to my RAID array and expand
the diskspace?

I've just added a new user to my system (RH6.1), and she can't fire up X.
When she enters startx, it creates .Xauthority, and then craps out with

Hi,
I couldn't find data on the openssh passive analysis vulnerability on
openssh.org, but after some digging I came up with the following link, which
might be of interest to some of you: http://openwall.com/advisories/OW-003-ssh-

Huh? Partitions of what, the raw disks or the RAIDed meta-volume?
Can you provide an example?

I run it as a standalone daemon rather than through inetd. It can be
tcpwrappers aware on its own I believe, so you can still use the
hosts.deny and hosts.allow. Depends on how it was compiled.
