perfectly (RedHat9), I point my web browser (IE6 on WinXP workstations)to

Well squid is used for web proxying not pop3 or smtp. Sound like you
have two problems.
One is that your SMTP server (sendmail, qmail, postfix) isn't working
and then pop3 isn't working. What errors are you getting? Can you telnet
to ports 25 and 110? Can you retrieve mail manually o

I've always had best luck using squid only for http and shooting everything
else directly through iptables. This way you can basically use any software
you want regardless of how it handles proxy connections. Something like
this would work for you...
#!/bin/sh
iptables -F
iptables -t n

the relevant changes in the Proxy Settings of Yahoo Messenger, to use

I am trying to configure squid to authenticate users for internet access.
Squid is running on an rh 7.1 box.
I have compiled a module called
squid_auth_ldap. It, according to /var/log/messages,
successfully connects to the netware ldap server but does not find
the users as one looks for
My son's school has following RH7.2 set up:
Server 1: SAMBA, Domain Controller, DHCP; 1 NIC connected to internal
network
Server 2: Firewall, Squid: 2 NICs, one public, one private.
All workstations are Win98SE
