Hello Guys..
I seemed to have lost all my files related to 'netcfg'. They just disappeared.
I still have the binary file though as it is the one complaining about the
missing files..
Is there a way to get these files back? I seem to find this utility better
than linuxconf, so i

I have the same problem. I found out I wasn't using the latest verison of
initscripts and I was optimistic that the update would fix it but I haven't
done so yet. If you are really using 6.2 them I assume it incorporates
the update. Why don't you check the version ('rpm -qi initscripts' and

Hi,
I am still having problems with my second ppp setup. I have ppp0 and
ppp1. ppp0 works perfectly. ppp1, however, does not. I have debugged
the connection and found that all the expects are working fine.
However, there is some weirdness happening near the end of the
connection...

Dave,
Have tou checked with your ISP to determine the authentication protocol
that is suppose to be used? PAP or CHAP perhaps?
Also look in your /etc/ppp/options file and see what options have been
specd.

Hello, David!
You'd have to configure PPP to allow for non-root users to activate the
PPP by changing the line USERCTL=yes in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0
Thereafter, you could activate PPP from the command line by using:
# /sbin/ifup ppp0
Hope that helps. Cheers!!

Hi,
I'm using RedHat 5.0. I have finished configuring my system as root so I
created a regular user for myself. As root I used netcfg to start a ppp

No, it was non-existant, and I never expected so much garbage printed out,
only to have the error message printed at the very bottom, so I never even
checked.
It turned out to be a dependancy problem. netcfg doesn't require
control-panel, it seems, which contains t

Set the ppp0 (or whatever) interface so that any user can bring it up and
down.
usernetctl ppp0 up
usernetctl ppp0 down
Or, use
If you already have it set up and working to dial up WITH the netcfg

cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
./ifup ppp0
That's all :) It runs the same script the netcfg tool does, from a
prompt, gets you connected and all of that. Personally after I'm

Use netcfg to configure the scripts, confg files, etc. Then do
/sbin/ifup
