Hi,
we're planning to use RedHat (7.2/7.3) on a Beowulf cluster.
For data storage we would like to use XFS (mainly because it
has virtually no inode limitations), so I looked for XFS
patches on oss.sgi.com.
Unfortunately, the people at SGI seem to be a bit behind,
as their latest 2.4.20 kern

Hi Folks,
I hope that you are well, I need to find out if I can use the dump

Hello All,
So ReiserFS is solid, how does SGI's XFS compare to that ? Anybody have
any comments on this ?

To put it briefly:
If it don't need breakin', don't fix it.
There's no compelling reason to go to XFS, or JFS, or Reiserfs. If ext3
works for you, use it.
I've found problems with each of the other fs types, on "some" machines.
ext3 is stable.

Let me put it this way ... is there any compelling reason (such as a

Depends what you are doing, for general purpose use of the laptop like
an end-user sort of thing, ext3 should be good enough.

You will not have TrueType support with 5.2 xfs AFAIK. Unless, at some
point this was updated in RH RPMs to support this, which I doubt. If

RE Hal Burgiss : http://feenix.eyep.net/xstuff/xfs.html
a very goodpage with lots of hints
all focused on 6.0 thru 6.2 rhat users
I am still in rhat 5.2 so the specific instructions therein
probably dont really apply to me, but I have some peculiar responses
re xfs in my 5.2 system that maybe

xfs so it accepts inet connections. Do I have to install the non-Redhat
xfs? I want to serve my fonts to other machines. I think Redhat broke
this because it is a security leak.
