I was wondering is there an application out there which can do a
temporary block on the IP of someone who has tried to login to FTP too
many times and failed? I am currently running an iptables firewall,
but I do not want IPs to be permanently blocked, just say
SMTPd, IMAPd or any other service you are

Give a look at Proftp (http://www.proftpd.org)

Greetings,
We are forced to look
behind
NAT'd firewalls. I have found instructions that suggest using an ftp server
that allows the passive port configured to 2121, which of course you cannot
do with Win2K ftp. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Has anyone checked this IM at www.awmm.com for spyware etc? Just wondering
if there has been any reports of security issues before I install it on my
system.
Thanks in advance!

both and I like Serv-U better and it supports SSL as well and is very
configurable and version 4 has been very stable.

Can anybody recommend a software package that has the ability to monitor an
IIS 5.0 based FTP server and provide immediate administrative notification
whenever a specific package is downloaded? FTP log analyzation tools would
be a plus as well.

Hi,
If you need a good and secure ftp server, try proftpd (www.proftpd.net). If
you need a HTTP server, I recommend you apache (www.apache.org). And yes, I
think OpenBSD/FreeBSD are both a good choice as OS (if you can do that, use

Hi there,
Something which I found very useful for sharing files between people
without the need for them to have shell access to the machine was the
use of proftpd with a mysql or postgresql backend. I chose to use
mysql because I know it better,
, depending on what it is that your transfering over
your network, your prolly going to far by using an encrypted ftp server.

Hello guys
sftp comes with ssh2. Use the dummy shell to lock out users or just set
their shell to /bin/false. Also check out chrootgroups, since sftp doesn't
