Make sure that you start the internal server on the Touch and that it
scans the files (have patience it is slow) and then use the music menus
like artist and album when it's finished .
Note that the "music folder" option is blocked while it's still
scanning try album ,
Also let the the new Touch
Logitech apparently changed their mind and sent me return authorization
paperwork last week. Next question is how long its going to take for me
to get the replacement.
Mnyb-I'm using a XP computer to rip CDs to flac files on a big USB hard
drive connected to that computer and copy those files to
My Touch plays music quite nicely from a 16GB SDHC card.
Mostly high bit-rate MP3, some FLAC, etc.
Organization: Just the "normal" three level Artist/Album/Track
structure starting in the root of the card.

Ok tried an old 1GB card i had around .
it worked .
it detected the card ,
Asked me if I wanted to start squeezeboxserver , yes ofcourse ,this
starts the tiny version of the server on the Touch itself.
did the spiny while scanning it (let it finish with that )
Went to "My Music" > switch lib

i know that 64 gB cards don't work, but not why. there is some "modern"
variants of SD cards the Touch are incompatible with, again I
I think there's been some misunderstanding about the number of flac
files I've got, what I want SD cards for, what I expect the Touch to do
and what I've done to try to get things to work.
I've got almost 500 GB of flac files on a hard drive. I know SD cards
aren't big enough to hold my whole lib

More to the point, the OP seems to have given up on suggestions to try
to get the SD and USB working. There are things that can be done to
improve the odds, and who knows, he could be one of the lucky minority.

Stability is fine, just don't expect the SD card USB facility to work,
use a real server like any other squeezebox ;) Touch is worth it's
price as a player only imo.

Good point. Sonos doesn't have anywhere to put an SD card, does it? If
I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have any support for music on USB, either.

Why is it so essential that it play music from an SD card? Did you try a
USB hard drive with the Touch? Or, obviously, your PC, which I think
you'd be using for Sonos anyway?
What do you gain from switching to Sonos?

I spent a lot of time on 2 phone calls with a Squeezebox tech last
weekend trying to resolve my problem. He finally gave up and said they
would email me a returned goods number and label for me to return my
Touch. When they received it they would send me a brand new
replacement.
A week later I've

time working on this myself, my Touch is going back to Logitech under
warranty. Once they get mine they're going to send me a new unit.
I tried making up a smaller SD card with fewer files on it and 3
different folder/file types
will the same files work on an USB stick ? No weird permission issues ?
the stick is not in read only mode for some reason, Touch scans the
media and write it's dB on the media in a folder it creates, so the
media must be writable .

Chris-I changed the folder name from FLAC to My Music. That didn't
help.
Mnyb-I've only had one extra device attached or installed at a time. I
even tried it with SBS on my computer shut off. No good.

I recently played flac files off a usb stick (1st time - I normally run
SBS, but I'd taken the player somewhere else) and the player wouldn't
see a bunch of flacs on the stick.
I created a folder on the USB stick called "My Music", dragged the
files into that, and, lo and behold, TinySC was happy
I've got several SD cards with FLAC files in folders with album titles
for names. Those folders are in a folder named "FLAC". My Touch doesn't
sem to find the music in these folders to play.
When I put a card in I get the what I think are the expected screens
that stop with a screen with choices
