I'm going to repeat myself.
Calling it GNU/Linux has nothing to do with the software. It has to do with
the freedom. If your even considering the components your missing the point
of calling it GNU/Linux in the first place.
“Linux” follows a different ideology than GNU. GNU follows the free
Be careful what you say. Read and re-read the FSF site.
None of us are perfect. RMS isn't either. We should all ask questions, think,
and evaluate the answers for ourselves.
RMS and the FSF have many bright people who have thought long and hard about
these issues. More so than anybody else.
Trisquel is not basing Ubuntu off a “non-free” distribution. Trisquel is
based off a distribution which has included non-free software without the
non-free components.
To add to this Ubuntu, LinuxMint, and other distributions are made almost of
entirely free software. Trisquel is not promot
I have in the past considered calling GNU/Linux "GNU/X/Linux", to reflect
what people like about the OS better while still keeping it recognizable,
mostly because you have people saying "most people don't care about the
low-level stuff that is GNU". Of course, my retort to that would be that

they're ignorant.
There is a small chance I'd go. Mention it to me when it gets closer. I'd be

Bring it up 3-4 weeks before the conference.
I don't think that will work. It's for a CD and the distribution then

version though.
Burn it to a CD first and then run the installation. Select the USB device as

There is another one, which is *the* GNU/Linux distribution for very old
computers: ConnochaetOS. Although the FSF does not list it among the free
distros (yet?), one can read on the main page of the website:
The Free Software Foundation examined every package very closely and said,

I do not think it is vague. It is, however, defined negatively: "with no
external constraint/control". Many people wrongly think that "freedom" means
"doing whatever you want" though...
Well the icon changer is here: gnome-control-center > Users Account > (Click

packages.
Try to do this.

Does anyone know what application is supposed to launch when you select the
User Account Picture? Also, when you select "Network Settings" from the
network icon nothing happens. Is it possible that there is a permissions
problem somewhere?
I think they understand it as free of taxes (Livre de impostos) or free to
share (liberdade de compartilhar) and assume the latter is free of charge
aswell. Just my guess. I think you could ask them.
Freedom (or liberdade) is a very vague word by itself though.
This is actually something that I don't understand to be honest... When I

understand it as free in free beer. So to avoid this situation I say

No, no! There is Dragora, which is not based in any other GNU/Linux

I'm really excited to see how Wayland turns out and when Ubuntu makes the
switch. I also see it is under a MIT license like X.Org.
The reality is that Trisquel relies on the Ubuntu base for the security and
general package updates. It is hard enough for Trisquel to be maintained with
the current setup and if the Trisquel team were to go to Debian and take the
update pack route like with Linux Mint Debian, the workload wo
I know that. I was just saying that if it was a way to help improving the

without those having to be removed from the original kernel in order to
create the Linux-Libre Kernel we would have more support, and thanks to that
I really do not understand the link between "extending the support for a
Trisquel version" (the topic of this thread) and "developing/improving the
drivers in Linux-libre" (the topic you are bringing with your last post).

I totally understand that but I'm pretty sure that this situation won't
change in the short time. We have a small community of people that really
care about free software, this little community is divided over the small
amount of Free Distributions (available on the FSF website for download).
What do you think about open-pc ?

What blocks is the manpower. Clearly, Trisquel cannot maintain a whole

Yeah, Chris has some valid points for the OP, here's a couple of other things
