> What's a EC firmware ?

EC is an embedded controller, these are responsible for laptop charging
and suspend. There are more details on the one used in OLPC
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Embedded_controller. These usually are
microcontrollers (with e.g. the 8051 instruction set) that are
controlled by nonfree manufacturer-supplied firmware which might be
updated to fix bugs.

The EC firmware practically can be considered a part of hardware, I
don't know if there are updates available for the one used in the
YeeLoong.

(There is also e.g. the hard disk firmware; these are technically
interesting.)
