I've succeeded converting a brf to pdf with TextEdit and opening it in IBooks.
I've also used the navigation keys that were pointed out, and it works quite
nicely. Thanks, all. I'm going to leave off the epub format for awhile and
stick with pdf.

do a two finger double tap, you do not try and hit the dictate button again. If
you try and hit the dictate button again you will probably find the voice over
speech ends up in your text also.

editing documents, etc., is why I think Pages is one of the worst excuses

This happens if you leave the Voice Over focus on the clock. Voice
Over will then keep announcing the time each minute as it changes. Just be
sure the focus is somewhere else and this will not happen. Or if you are in a

Yes, rotor options are added fairly regularly on updates. I check the rotor
every time a new update comes out.
One way to figure out what options do is to select the option, turn the rotor
to it whilst navigating, and use a vertical flick to see what happens.

On the social tab, I try to log into my facebook, and it brings up safari.
There's a disclaimer, then a link with my username and I click on that.
So far, so good. It opens facebook, but back on the vocal app it still
