I don't think credit cards are supported as funding sources for Apple Pay. Your
debit card is tied more directly to your bank account which is why I think they
are supported.

Have you gone into the Face ID and Passcode section in settings and made sure
that Face ID is turned on for Apple Pay? This might solve the entire issue with
Face ID not working for you.
