I am still running Sierra on a number of iMacs. No problems with what I do
with them.
In the early 1960s whilst teaching in PNG, I had several flights in a Catalina.
The only updates I could see was the removal of the weaponry. Beautiful
machine!

Some suggestions:
1. Ensure you have the latest Catalina version (macOS 10.15.4) installed.
What was your previous OS? Did it update from Mojave or Sierra or ---?
2. Are you using USB or Bluetooth for the Wacom tablet? There may be a common
USB issue if tablet and external drives
