Here's my two cents on this particular thread.... 1. I, for one, believe in the KISS rule (Keep It Simple, Stupid). I'd just as soon NOT see something like squid (or any other proxy, for that matter), on my STN box.
2. I would concede that a 486 min would be acceptable - it would be even better if the mem requirements could be as small as 8 meg. I have nothing against a 386 (I know a 386sx/25 that has been running STN very nicely, thank you!) However, if the kernel features that people want require a 486, than so mote it be. 3. (ref: My opinion @ #1) I will also concede that I am NOT the center of the universe - and that my own needs are not likely to encompass the needs of other users. If it were possible to set STN up in such a way that those people who WANT something like squid - or some other "special feature" add-on - could add this special piece to the stock box. This would allow it to be flexable - to meet other people's needs - and yet would allow me to have the lean-and-mean config that I want. Jim David C.
