Well, I have to say, I still do not buy the Snopes as a blanket
generalization. I've seen plenty of melted plastic come out of a
microwave after food was heated in the plastic container (tupperware,
mainly, and also saran used to cover food ----I've seen that melted too.
As I said before though I think this has to do with heat transferred
from the food, not the microwaves themselves.
Particularly food that has fat, grease, butter, etc. I've just seen too
many melted pits in tupperware. Probably due to hot spots, microwaves
don't heat things perfectly evenly, especially if there are bits of fat
involved.
Might be there are some plastics that are unaffected........commercially
sold containers specifically designed for microwave use or the like.
I haven't tried heating anything in any of the Ziploc food storage
containers, though, so don't know how those react.

The question then:
Does the plastic heat more than the food?
..probably not.
