Thanks Tom:

My question was because the "Shaft" is also the "Equipment room" combined.

Hi Thom,
I believe the shunt trip has to be installed at the top and the bottom
if it is protected with a sprinkler. Also activation can be with a flow
switch. Most of the time the heat detector activates the shunt trip. Also
top and bottom should be protected with a smoke detector for elevator
recall. Check ASME A17.1(2004) Section 2.27.3.2 I hope this helps.

Subject: Re: Elevators

When protecting an elevator shaft of a (Otis Gen 2) or Kone (Eco Space)
type elevator where the elevator equipment is contained in the shaft is protection at top and bottom of the shaft required if the shaft is of non-combustible construction?

Would Shunt trips (Flow Switch or heat detector operated) be required
for both heads (locations) , or just the top of shaft location?

My initial thoughts are both top and bottom for heads, and just top of
heat detector.
