Chris, Google bleve. Its not a fire inside the tank that's the issue. Its an exposure fire that causes the liquid fuel inside the tank expand at a rate greater than the pressure relief vent can withstand, that you are protecting against.
Good responses, thanks all, that will allow me to think the issues out. You and at least some one else suggested the lower area needs the most help. Could you explain. The area with fuel inside needs NO help from sprinklers. It's only the dry steel on the inside that is an issue. Certainly the bottom in a case of an empty tank needs help. But no more that the top of a nearly full tank. Not arguing you don't need sprinklers on the bottom, because you don't how much fuel is present when the fire starts. I concur heads are need. Just why the more important. Most prescriptions were well intended (for the sales reps and for fire protection), but not all of the older prescriptions were substantiated. when Nature starts reading more NFPA, is when I start believing what each 30-year old prescription has to say. (sure I do it anyway, but don't be fooled just because its a written rule). I am still sticking with what I have been seeing: run down happens. scot deal excelsior fire _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) This communication (and any attachments) is directed in confidence to the addressee(s) listed above, and may not otherwise be distributed, copied or used.
