There is not a complete disconnect between IBC and NFPA 13 Occupancy Classifications for required density- the connection is along the lines of--- if NFPA Classification is based partly on Quantity of the combustibles and IBC looks at Use of the space and says we expect 5 lbs fuel/sq.ft at x btu blah blah blah so the Fire resistance of the space is yada yada yada...., making it a so and so Occupancy, then----make sense? I have been trying for a few years to relate density to quantity, combustibility and HRR.
