I realize in my last post I said I was giving up but....
After many phone calls to Slimdevices, my ISP and my router(2Wire)
manufacturer I think I have solved my problem of sudden disconnects and
non connects with MySqueezebox.com when my main computer is off. A tech
from Slimdevices put me on the right track by suggesting I turn off the
router/modem's firewall to test the Network. Unfortunately my ISP Bell
Canada has it's own firmware on the 2Wire router/modem which prevents
users from accessing many settings including turning off the fire
wall(many administrative settings for the router are password protected
by Bell even though some are accessible through the browser at
192.168.2.1. Anyway by searching the net I found a work around for
Bell's router/modem (2wire 2701HG-G) (at
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22591605-Internet-How-To-Use-A-Separate-Router-With-A-2Wire-Modem).
The work around allows users to disable the router and wireless function
of the 2wire and hook up a router of their own ( I used an old Linksys
WRT54gl router with Tomato_1.19 Firmware ).
For users that are able to access router and firewall settings you may
be able to find a simpler method of turning off the router and wireless
functions of the 2Wire and inserting another router.
Since I have made these changes mysqueezebox.com seems to connect and
run uninterrupted on both wired and wireless players and there are no
problems turning on, off and on again SB players while the computer is
off as there were in the past. I have only tested this out today for
two intervals of 3 - 4 hours each but the behaviour of the players has
changed for the better. I will update this in a few days to confirm that
it works and plan to leave one player on mute connected to
mysqueezebox.com overnight to test it out.
Again thanks to those of you who had patience with me and helped sort
this matter out.
