Although I love my S900, it's an entirely different matter spending money on another one. Maybe I can dabble in X or tinker with a G4 upgrade. What happened to the slower G4 upgrades ? Too many negative reports on the faster (700+) G4 cards.
Hi Alan-
I got hold of a second s900 recently from someone on this list. It had a small amount of RAM and a 604e/250 using 8.1. All I did was add a 9GB drive with 9.1 installed and my scanner and fax modem. My other machine with 1GB RAM, G4/450 runs Jaguar beautifully but wouldn't run my scanner and the fax software that I like. So it was a good solution for me. The new machine is also connected to my cable modem via a router so I have "outward mobility".
Having a second machine is a great opportunity for you to play with Jaguar, which will beguile you in a short time. So far, I have not had any problems with it. When an app occasionally quits (very rare) the rest of the open programs have not been affected. You just have to do some reading about what components are known to work/not work and follow XPostFacto's (a great, great program) very clear and thorough instructions.
