I should spend approx $500 to get an IDE card/drive and a processor

If you just need a replacement drive with a larger capacity and are not that concerned with speed, Macresq has been having deals on 9 GB SCSI drives trying to clear them out. You could probably get one there for under $30.

Hmmm. I just checked their latest weekly specials email and I guess they're down to the 4.3 GB drives. Still this is probably your least expensive route:

4.3GB drives for under $7!

Part #MDR125-0043
Western Digital 4.36gb 7200 RPM 68-Pin Ultra 2 SCSI Wide Hard Drive
Normally $9.99, get them for $6.99 each with Q-Pon code "4SC"

Of course you'd need a wide to narrow adapter to put it on the S900 SCSI. I'd check their website. They may have some good deals on a larger narrow drive.

EIDE/ATA is a better choise if you're comptemplating adding a SCSI card and cables and a big up to date SCSI drive and you want fast performance. But if you just need a replacment drive, there are some less expensive options around in a simple SCSI drive replacement.
