Dear listers -

Nearby on the floor sits a free S900 I hijacked from the a friend.
It was used for a scanning station to drive a drum scanner and had been
sitting for a while.

It has a Umax labeled 225mhz 604e processor with a cooling fan mounted
on the card.
Front door missing.
Upright mounted Macropolis (Or is it Micropolis) drive. Based on my past
experience with these drives, I'm assuming it is near death.
An Asante 10/100 network card in addition to the factory 10-baseT.
A Radius video card that spans the entire depth of the case and has only
the Mac connector.
Four sticks of memory of unknown size, which seem to be mounted for
interleving.

Although I have eight sticks of 128mb DIMMs laying around (where are
they ?) and an extra 8mb UltimateRez card, it's debatable whether or not
I should spend approx $500 to get an IDE card/drive and a processor
upgrade of reasonable speed.
(Maybe less if I buy used stuff.)
It would be used mainly as an internet appliance for my wife's e-mail
account, hooked up to the DSL router.

Although I love my S900, it's an entirely different matter spending
money on another one.
Maybe I can dabble in X or tinker with a G4 upgrade.
What happened to the slower G4 upgrades ?
Too many negative reports on the faster (700+) G4 cards.

Not seeking comments but just rambling.

Alan
