Without revisiting the global vs per-device preference scenario (note:
it's global right now!! :) ), I think this message must be conveyed on
desktop messaging and just raising visibility for John, Madhava etc.

Tiny point of clarification here (and one reason why per-device pref makes
more sense to me): preferences and add-ons only sync between apps of the
same "kind", and the only kind that supports them is desktop. Not an easy
thing to convey, alas.
