Absolutely, and that's the only way to go about it. Just because you rip your CDs to your hard drive, doesn't mean that you should now toss the CDs on a bon fire. The prudent way is not to put all one's eggs in only one basket. Right now, I have my music stored on the original CDs, on my computer, on 4 external hard drives (2 at home, 2 in the office), plus some music in the cloud as well (Amazon, DropBox, and some other services).
