Yes, you can use OpenOffice.org to make brochures. I believe that it
works better than Publisher for Desktop Publishing, but if you want full
DTP, you should use a specific package (Pages on Mac, Scribus on Linux,
Adobe product on Windows).
Labels can also be made using OpenOffice.org. There is a good Draw
program that also works to create business cards.
Many of these would be templates you could add on once you install the
program.
