WEIRD NEWS

A work of art on show in a Berlin gallery has caused
outrage amongst visitors. The installation by artist
Friedrich Heisterkamp at the Berlinische Galerie
consists of a gun with a telescope attached. It is
installed on a balcony and mounted to have a 180�
radius. Visitors can aim at objects and other people
around them. The gun is not loaded, but many people
complain it brings back memories of the Erfurt
shootings or the Washington sniper attacks. Berlin's
Morgenpost paper reports that visitors have reported
"intense uneasiness." Bazon Brock, a retired professor
of aesthetics, says "provocative depictions of violence
have always existed. But since Erfurt at the latest,
they have become highly problematic," he added.
A spokeswoman says the gun installation is not part
of the gallery's collection. It is part of a project in which
exhibition space is opened to various artists.
A collie dog who had chased a stick thrown by her
owner, came back with a live grenade in her mouth.
Shadow found the explosive device on a riverbank
beside the River Wye in Hampton Bishop, Hereford.
Owner Gordon Husband eased the device from her
mouth before carrying it gently 1� miles to his home.
He called Army bomb experts who arrived to blow up
the grenade.
A group of women claim they were thrown out of an
Australian park for laughing. Susan Welch, the director
of the Laughter Clubs of Queensland, says they were
banned from holding a laughter session in Brisbane
Forest Park. She claims a park ranger told the group
they were making too much noise and scaring wildlife.
The professional laughter therapist speaks to academic,
business and government groups on the benefits of
laughing. She said she had been speaking to 18
health professionals on a park band stand but a
ranger told the group to stop. "She said it was
inappropriate and scaring the wildlife," Ms Welch
said. "It was sad at the time and it just killed the
moment because we were all a bit shocked."
