My only request is that when you do fork, you use a name other than
Window Maker. Once you fork, and start to bring the code into GNU
standards, patches will no longer apply cleanly from one project to
the other.

It will also help to alleviate confusion between the Official Window
Maker and GNU's Window Manager.
